[edit] What's this section?

Well, finally every user works on a desktop. He clicks, he checks a checkbox, he enters some text in an input field - he uses graphical interfaces (GUIs).

There are many rumors that Linux could not do that - in fact, Linux is very advanced when it comes to cool user interfaces. It's not just nice, you also have the choice between several interfaces and you can customize your desktop the way it needs to be for you.

In this section, we'll split it up in application groups and I'll show you which applications are mature enough to rival with classical Windows applications. Application availability is a key point for the average user as he wants to have good tools that just work. You don't want to feedle around everyday, someday you just want to surf around the net, listen to some decent music, scan something in or burn a DVD - and I'll show you how to archieve this easy stuff with Linux - and much style..

[edit] A sidenote

Linux development is so vital that something that doesn't work today (I'm in January 2005), can run smoothly tomorrow. Many software I describe here could be outdated in a few months. So don't take anything by word here - when I say a driver isn't available, it could be today (you'll read this in the future).

[edit] The parts

To break it down a little bit, we'll divide the stuff into different application categories. It also makes everything faster as the images could be a little larger.
